The AccessPORT is an amazing tool and the best upgrade for the money you can make to your Mazdaspeed vehicle. I admire Ed’s desire to make this perfect, but you can’t please everyone. While the original warranty has expired, the Accessport has been serviced by Cobb with a new LCD module and a new OBD cable connector with little use since. Anyhow, could Ed make this tune better for me? Probably, but then it’ll be worse for someone else.

That’s what makes manual transmissions so great, you have complete control. I’ve tuned my own GM transmissions, and even then, I was never able to get the transmission to do exactly what I wanted it to 100% of the time. I personally find myself cruising around the 52-55 mph range for several miles and it likes to hang on to 5th gear at those speeds. I have gotten gear hunting between 3rd and 4th when going uphill at light throttle. I like how the trans down shifts to first at extremely low speeds, it keeps the engine from bogging in 2nd gear when pulling away from a rolling stop, something the Cobb tune did that I didn’t care for. Transmission tuning is extremely subjective. It has greatly reduced my tendency to use the paddle shifters/manual mode as I did with the Cobb sport tune. I have only used the Cobb DSG tunes and this is much better than those.

I’ve had the V2 tune for a little over 2 weeks. It made it difficult to drive smoothly without my intervention. It was also really jerky when coming to and going from a stop which was very unpleasant and unsettling sometimes. This tune combined with their stage one ots map takes the car from a warm grin to a jaw clenching smile. I don't know if the tcu learning mechanism has any effect but I rarely get the gear chasing, maybe once or twice if I'm making an unprotected turn even after trying what mygolf and gtifl said about theirs.

Just download the AP manual from Cobbs site and it has all the info you will need on it. It's magic because it knows what gear I want to be in before I even know. Installing even with the V2 takes a few minutes, but its very simple. The best compliment I can give it is I don't have to manual shift if I want to pass someone on the highway now. My commutes either an hour on the freeway or 45 mins city and the Ed's tune is perfect for both. I've had it on now for a couple hundred miles and it is far and beyond better than the Cobb sport ots tune in every way.
